Exciting update!! The price is even better: £849 body only, £949 with the new lens
Weather sealed? Ipx1 only. Barely splash proof. 😢
So om Pen is better than om5 mark2?
Oh how I wish this had been a sort of stripped down OM3 rather than a stripped down OM5ii ;(
is this better than a lumix gx9? I'm thinking stabilised lenses from lumix plus IBIS lifts the gx9 above it? or is the sensor actually better in the new PEN?
I am interested in a comparison between the OM5 II and the Pen. I was hoping the Pen would be a little smaller but it isn't, so maybe the OM5 II is a better choice. It has more buttons… But the Pen had two Custom modes. It is all getting a little complicated 😉
The Pen is mightier than the Pen😊😝
im expecting Pen-F ii.. no less.. that camera lack button, looks beginner.. long live Pen-F!
Pre-ordered the PEN. Good job OM.
Emily, is there some way to communicate with OM Systems, for those of us to give ideas for what we want next?
For example, I'd like to see the 12mm lens redesigned and weather proofed.
In fact I have one other strong wish: Sony makes great lenses – a standout is its 24-50mm f2.8. It's small, full featured and really good. Can OM consider a 12-25 (or something similar) at less than 400 grams, but go to f2!, That would be so usable and cool. (Panasonic makes a 10-25, f1.7 – great lens but too big.)
Is there a way to communicate with OM? Could make a good video…
Nice review like always. And nice camera, but it's a shame it lacks 4k 60p and 10 bits in 2026. I'll wait for the upcoming autumn/ winter releases. Cheers. 👍
as a om5II Owner…if OM not adress the "light" subject detection from new Pen in the next firmware update for OM5II—-this was my last OM…*pissed*
Thank you as always for your enthusiastic review.
I’ve seen many of your reviews on OM3. I’m thinking between Pen and OM3. My concern with OM3 is the size and weight. I’m thinking about an EDC, as an older long term neophyte photographer. OM3 is even wider than my EM1iii.
Now that you’ve handled both, any thoughts?
Hi Emily, as you have reinforced my intention of buying the OM Pen, I was thinking about lenses, especially macro. The 3.5 90mm looks interesting, but will be top heavy with the Pen. As I like to keep my distance from sensitive insects, would this still be a better fit for me than the 60mm 2.8. I welcome your advice.
I’m a Sony user, but this camera very much appeals to me, as it offers a lot for a very reasonable price. I’m very drawn to all that the CP button has to offer. Thank you for a very informative, enthusiastic and entertaining review. I’ll definitely be buying the Pen, which I think will prove popular with many photographers .
I have the OM-5ii and the OM-3. It seems like I could do everything with the PEN that I need to do. What would you do, as a OM-3 lover? I have been using the OM-3 for travel. (I've got a full setup of FF camera gear when I want to carry the heavier camera and lenses for pro jobs.)
With the new PEN, is it possible to turn off the AF for people and amimal detection? I dont want to use it if I'm photographing a ceowd or buildings or other stuff? Ive never owed a digital camera so in not sure how all this works.
The OM user base if it wants m43 to survive really needs to get away from this sentimental nonsense constantly hanging over the system about the long gone PEN-F. It is doubtful if Olympus made any money from it or sold many and let us not forget they had to abandon camera manufacture altogether. Time to take what is available and not dream of something from the good old days long gone and making no economic sense given the thin current market for any sort of camera. Especially as it probably made little economic sense in its day.
I was very excited about this release but sadly I'm disappointed. I get it's perfect for those it's aimed at those that might want to get into having a camera over a phone. However I won't be selling my Pen F to replace it for this.
Im torn, this or fuji xt30iii. Ik its a different señsor buts its within the orice range
Am I correct in thinking this has the same sensor as the EM1 Mk 2 that came out 10 years ago?
Opinion on the lack of af joystick?
Great video. Love this camera sooo much. I would have got this over my Xs-10 if it existed. For the weather sealing alone!
The new Pen seems a sensible way forward. 😊
May I confirm with you that the single hand operation to turn on the camera is by using your index finger on the power switch? As your thumb is holding the camera, you can use it to turn on the camera. I remember in EP5’s time I using my index finger to turn it on.
After I checked the spec sheet the EVF magnification is the same as PenF, smaller than OM3&5. Do you confirm it looks better?
Heck yeah. M43 body that has: IBIS, EVF, relatively compact size, some weather sealing, and a decent control set up. I hope OM-System sells a bunch of these
